Thirty countries participated in the meeting.
A coalition of willing nations is providing new military and energy support to Ukraine. This primarily involves strengthening its air defense capabilities.
This was reported by a correspondent for RBC-Ukraine correspondent, citing a statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at a press conference following the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Kyiv.
Zelenskyy noted that the meeting was attended by:
all European Union member states,
EU leaders,
NATO representatives,
Turkey,
and the leaders of Japan, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.
“Ukraine received support today in the form of military and energy aid packages. Thank you, Alex, for the air defense systems, and to all our friends for funding certain initiatives. “Thank you for your help and for the additional funds for drones,” the President of Ukraine added.
Zelenskyy noted that air defense will be the priority for Ukraine’s partners in providing further support.
These are the two main areas:
the search for and purchase of the PAK-3 through PURL and other channels;
accelerating the Freyja project.
Assistance from the UK, France, and Germany
Zelenskyy highlighted the support from the UK—whose Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, visited Ukraine for the first time—as well as from France and Germany.
“Thank you to the prime minister for being with us. We also thank Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz. He was also online and closed our meeting,” he said.
Zelenskyy identified protecting Ukraine’s energy sector ahead of winter as the main challenge.
“Europe is preparing a new loan tranche of 6.1 billion euros. Our prime minister also participated and provided an update on our financial needs. This is also a serious challenge—the details and the math behind this war. We’ll all be working to address this deficit,” Zelenskyy clarified.
The president also noted that Macron suggested stepping up efforts regarding the “shadow fleet.” Ukraine is planning a separate meeting.
Zelenskyy is convinced that Europe must be at the peace negotiation table with Russia in any case.
“Although, to be honest, many of the leaders who were present and spoke today are indeed skeptical that Putin is ready for any negotiations at this time.”
The head of state also noted that Ukraine has appealed to all leaders with a request.
“So that there are no gaps between meetings of the Coalition of the Willing. And we have strongly requested a corresponding meeting in September.”
