Gitanas Nausėda congratulated Ukrainians on Flag Day.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda delivered a speech in Ukrainian in Kyiv during the celebrations marking Ukraine’s National Flag Day.

A video of the speech was posted on the Office of the President’s YouTube channel.

In his speech, which lasted more than three minutes, Nausėda congratulated President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the Ukrainian people on Flag Day.

“The spirit of freedom that I feel here is unlike anything else. The example of self-sacrifice that you demonstrate every day is especially dear to the Lithuanian people. We know the power of freedom all too well. We know how painful it is to lose it and how much effort it takes to regain it,” said the Lithuanian president.

He emphasized that Lithuania sincerely supports Ukraine and assured that it will continue to do so.

“We will help Ukraine rebuild its destroyed schools, hospitals, and power plants. We will support you in your quest for membership in the European Union and NATO,” added Nausėda.

Ukraine’s National Flag Day is celebrated annually on August 23. This holiday is dedicated to one of the country’s main symbols and traditionally precedes Independence Day, which is celebrated on August 24.
