Trump: Communists Don't Laugh

The U.S. president called them “very unfortunate people.”

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that communists don’t know how to laugh or smile. He made this remark at a rally in South Carolina.

“I’ve never seen that. I’ve known communists. They don’t laugh. They’re very unhappy people,” said the U.S. president.

On July 5, while delivering a speech in Washington, D.C., to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States, Trump threatened that the U.S. would once again “wipe out” the hammer and sickle—one of the symbols of communism.

The day before, Trump had linked the “communist threat” to migrants coming to the U.S. who do not share American values. The American leader called communism “the greatest threat” to the U.S. “of all, including World War I and World War II, Pearl Harbor, and even September 11.”
