Armenia Has Sharply Increased Its Exports To The EU Following The Trade War Unleashed By Russia

Exports of Armenian goods to the European market increased by 80%.

Armenia has accelerated the reorientation of its foreign trade toward the European market following Russia’s imposition of import restrictions on a number of Armenian goods. In the first six months of 2026, exports to the EU grew by 80%, while trade with Russia declined by more than 20%. The Armenian government has provided these figures, according to dialog.ua.

Thus, in the first half of this year, exports of Armenian goods to the European market reached $516 million, an increase of 80% compared to $287 million during the same period last year.

In parallel with the growth in exports to the EU, Armenia’s trade with Russia has declined significantly. According to data from the Republic’s Statistical Committee, trade between the two countries totaled $2.63 billion in January–June, compared to $3.326 billion a year earlier.

Russia’s role in Armenia’s foreign trade has also diminished. While a year earlier Moscow accounted for 34.7% of Armenia’s foreign trade turnover, in the first half of this year that figure fell to 27.5%.

The decline in trade occurred after Russian authorities began imposing restrictions on imports from Armenia amid Yerevan’s efforts toward European integration. Various categories of Armenian products fell under Russian bans and restrictions, including fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, mineral water, dairy and seafood products, as well as alcohol.

Amid deteriorating trade relations with Russia, the Armenian side began to more actively seek buyers in other markets, including Europe. At the same time, Brussels allocated €52 million in emergency aid to Armenia to support the reorientation of its export flows.
