The Guardian: Putin Was Scared Of Mobilization

The Kremlin has no intention of backing down from its demands for the complete annexation of Ukrainian regions enshrined in the Russian Constitution, despite the worsening shortage of manpower and rising casualties on the front lines. However, as reported by The Guardian reported, citing two sources familiar with the discussions on this issue in Moscow, there are currently no signs that Putin will resort to a new wave of forced mobilization to replenish his troops. An unnamed senior Western official also told the newspaper that there are currently no indications that such a decision will be made.

At this point, the Russian leadership apparently intends to force as many Russians as possible to sign contracts with the Ministry of Defense rather than risk conducting a new mobilization draft, said sources familiar with the Kremlin’s position. This is indirectly confirmed by another source—an employee of a recruitment agency in central Russia. His company is required to find 20 to 30 men each month to send to war, with bonuses for exceeding the quota and fines for falling short. “It was easier last year. Now it’s getting harder and harder,” said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The same source stated that his organization is also discussing a possible mobilization, but no orders or signs of an imminent new draft have been received.
