Dugin: There Will Be Neither Moscow Nor St. Petersburg

A controversial Putin ideologue has called for the mass eviction of Russians from major cities.

Russian citizens should be resettled from major cities with populations of over a million to rural areas and villages due to the impending nuclear war with the West. This proposal was was put forward by the eccentric philosopher Alexander Dugin, the author of the concepts of “Solar Putin” and the “Russian World,” whom Western media have called the Russian president’s mentor.

According to Dugin, a war with Western countries is “not just likely, but almost inevitable,” and its escalation into a nuclear conflict is “highly probable.”

“Russian megacities, where all life, all industry, and the entire economy are concentrated, are becoming prime targets for precision strikes. (Therefore) we need an immediate and massive depopulation of cities, especially megacities,” Dugin suggests.

According to him, people who own their own land “have incomparably more children than those in cities”. “There will be no major cities: neither Moscow, nor St. Petersburg, nor Yekaterinburg,” Dugin predicts. “People will go to the countryside to live peacefully. And high-rise buildings can be repurposed as farms, for example, for Bitcoin mining. Let computers live there; let robots live there.”

Dugin, who appears on the sanctions lists of the U.S., the European Union, and Canada, has previously called for law enforcement personnel (the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB, and the National Guard) to be treated as “messengers of God,” claimed that Russians are being monitored by Western-made household appliances, including coffee grinders and electrical outlets, and, following the “Oreshnik” missile strikes on Ukraine, urged everyone to “be baptized” immediately in anticipation of the imminent end of the world.

In March 2026, Dugin called for increased state control over the people and urged the people themselves to accept their suffering as inevitable. “We Russians have always suffered throughout history. Such is our fate. We are a great people, and if we have been treated unjustly, it is only for the sake of humility and glory,” Dugin explained.

In July, Dugin proposed mobilizing Muscovites—who lead quiet lives on Patriarch’s Ponds—to the front and compared them to “ants.” Russia is waging a “sacred people’s war” against the West, which could “lead to the end of humanity,” Dugin asserted.
