Iran Has Refused To Honor The Ceasefire With The U.S.

Tehran has suspended all of its obligations and walked away from the negotiations.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hazem Garibabadi stated that Tehran has suspended its obligations under the agreement with the U.S., which provided for a ceasefire.

This was reported by CNN.

It is important to note that in June, a memorandum of understanding between the two countries put an end to weeks of fighting and paved the way for detailed negotiations, but it soon collapsed due to an exchange of strikes between Iran and the U.S.

“We were engaged in negotiations. Unfortunately, it was the Americans who took these aggressive actions, violating their own commitments. (As a result—ed.) we have suspended the fulfillment of all our obligations and are, in fact, no longer carrying them out,” Garibabadi said in a broadcast on Iranian state television.

CNN reports that the statement by Iran’s deputy foreign minister is yet another sign that negotiations between Tehran and Washington, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, have reached an impasse.

“Our task now is to defend our country. We will do so firmly and resolutely, and I think the Americans have once again received their answer—that their aggressive actions will lead nowhere,” Garibabadi concluded.

Earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai stated that Tehran would continue to respond “resolutely” to U.S. strikes and has no plans to engage in negotiations.

“We currently have no plans for negotiations, and we remain focused on defending our country,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
