Fire Point announced the first flight of a Ukrainian ballistic missile.

Ukraine is already conducting ground tests of the engine for its FP-9 ballistic missile, and the first tests “on Moscow” are set to begin shortly. This was stated Denis Shtilerman, co-founder of Fire Point .

When asked what the main challenge in producing the FP-9 was, he replied:

“We had to build our own solid-propellant engine casting plant.” This motor is quite heavy, and it needs to be cast from a single mixer. We need a large mixer capable of casting such a large rocket in a single batch. All of this is now complete, and we are awaiting the first flight in the near future.

At the same time, Shtilman noted that Ukraine currently already possesses ballistic missiles capable of flying up to 300 kilometers. However, according to the company representative, it makes no sense for Ukraine to use them.

“At 15 times lower cost, using such an aircraft (UAV—ed.) with a slightly different wing, we can deliver the same 200-kg warhead over a distance of 380 km. For $40,000, not $600,000. It just doesn’t make sense. Well, maybe when we need to quickly destroy some “Iskander” launchers that have just been deployed. “We’re currently manufacturing these missiles and stockpiling them for the future ‘Freya’ project,” added Shtilerman.

He also noted that Ukraine is capable of producing more ballistic missiles than Russia, provided there is sufficient funding. The reason for this is our strategy for developing weapons systems.

“We’re not chasing complex engineering solutions that would ensure maximum efficiency in terms of the weight-to-cost ratio. No, we are focused on one thing—mass production,” explained Stilerman.

When asked what the approximate cost of the FP-9 missile would be, he replied that it would be less than $1 million.
