Secretary of State Marco Rubio recognized the situation as an emergency.

The administration of US President Donald Trump, bypassing a congressional review process, has approved a massive sale of more than $8.6 billion worth of military equipment to allies in the Middle East region - Israel, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, writes Reuters.

The U.S. State Department's statement came amid nine weeks since the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran began, and weeks after an unsustainable ceasefire.

The department explained that Secretary of State Marco Rubio recognized the situation as an emergency, which allowed the mandatory congressional approval of the agreements to be waived.

What exactly will be sold

The largest contracts include:

for Qatar, $4.01 billion worth of maintenance services for Patriot air defense systems and $992.4 million worth of precision APKWS systems;

for Kuwait, $2.5 billion worth of integrated battle management systems;

for Israel, $992.4 million worth of precision kill systems;

for the UAE, $147.6 million worth of APKWS systems.

The main contractors are leading defense companies:

BAE Systems - delivery of APKWS;

RTX and Lockheed Martin - Patriot systems and control systems;

Northrop Grumman - participation in the Kuwaiti contract.

Criticism and Risks

Washington has been criticized for years for its military cooperation with Gulf countries because of the human rights situation. Human rights activists speak of restrictions on freedoms, pressure on journalists and discrimination against minorities. The governments of these states themselves deny such accusations.

The US support for Israel is also under the scrutiny of international experts because of the war in Gaza and the humanitarian crisis.

Stock problems

Simultaneously, according to the Financial Times, the US has warned European allies - in particular Britain, Poland, Lithuania and Estonia - about possible delays in arms deliveries.

The reason is the depletion of stocks due to the active use of resources in the conflict with Iran. Washington emphasizes: this is not a political decision, but a consequence of the real state of military reserves.
