A majority of Americans believe Donald Trump is to blame for high gasoline prices in the United States. As the results of a Reuters/Ipsos public opinion poll conducted earlier this week show, 77% of respondents place at least some responsibility for rising fuel prices on the U.S. president.
The most confident in Mr. Trump's guilt are supporters of Democrats - 95% of them said so. Among Republican supporters, 55% of respondents hold the president responsible. As the poll showed, the issue of rising fuel prices worries 78% of respondents. 58% of respondents said they will not vote for candidates who support Donald Trump's approach in the conflict with Iran in the November 2026 midterm elections. It is President Trump's actions in that conflict that most respondents attribute to rising prices.
About 70% of respondents also disagreed with the assertion that the U.S. economy is booming. 82% of respondents said they were very concerned about inflation. Americans' opinions on which of the two major parties is doing a better job of handling economic policy have been shifting in recent months, with the share of those who trust Democrats rising from 34% to 37% and those who trust Republicans falling from 42% to 38%.
