The generals lie to him about the reality of the situation.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said in an interview with the Italian publication Corriere della Sera published on April 24 that Russia has lost its offensive initiative in the war against Ukraine and its leadership may be receiving distorted information about the situation on the front.
He said the battle line remains relatively stable, while the number of Russian troops sent to the front lines is gradually decreasing. This, Sikorski said, could indicate a depletion of the Russian army's resources.
He also noted that Russian troops, in his assessment, have lost "offensive momentum" and suggested that the military command may not be telling Vladimir Putin the full picture of what is happening.
The Polish foreign minister agreed with the view that the Russian ruler was "in a deadlock," adding that authoritarian leaders often learn the real state of affairs too late because their entourage tends to filter information.
Sikorski said Putin had previously demonstrated the qualities of a "tactician and realist," but now, in his assessment, he was hostage to his own ambitions related to the idea of "imperial revival."
