ISW: The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Underground Operations Are Undermining Russia’s Tactics On One Of The Key Fronts

Ukrainian defenders launched a series of successful counterattacks.
Defense Forces operations involving UAVs and underground tunnels are preventing Russia from employing infiltration tactics into Kupyansk from the north. This is reported by analysts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), citing a statement by the spokesperson for the Joint Forces Operation Viktor Tregubov.
Experts note that Russian troops are advancing through Golubovka, located north of Kupiansk. However, the occupiers do not station troops in Golubovka on a permanent basis. The Russians also rarely manage to enter Radkovka. They do so only under poor weather conditions, which indicates the successful operations of Ukrainian UAV operators.
At the same time, Ukrainian defenders have taken control of a section of the underground pipeline stretching from Radkovka to a point northeast of Golubovka. It is in this area that the pipeline runs under the Oskol River. This prevents Russia from reaching the northern part of Kupyansk. The combination of this tactic with maintaining air superiority prevents Russia from conducting operations to infiltrate Kupyansk.
Commenting on other sections of the front, experts noted that the Russian Federation attempted to advance in the Novopavlovka and Oleksandrivka areas but failed to achieve any results. The Ukrainian Defense Forces also launched counterattacks in this area. Analysts have not reported on the results of these attacks.
In addition, experts note counterattacks by the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the Orekhov direction, which thwarted the Russian Federation’s plans for an offensive.
