A Belarusian Woman In Russia: I Really Miss The Quality

A blogger compared life in the two countries and sparked a storm of emotions.
Gelya, a blogger from Belarus—also known as Angelina Shigaleva—moved from Belarus to Russia and shared her impressions of her new home: what she likes about it and what she doesn’t.
In her post, Gelya compares life in Belarus and in Yekaterinburg. What she finds most unusual are the local dairy products.
“I miss the quality of Belarusian products so much. Delicious milk, sour cream. Of course, there are Belarusian products here too, but they cost several times more,” she admits.
Her second complaint is about traffic jams. According to the blogger, there are quite a few outlying areas in Yekaterinburg from which it’s difficult to get to the city center.
“There are traffic jams in Minsk, too, but it feels different there.” A trip to the center of Yekaterinburg, she says, can take up to an hour.
On the other hand, she likes paying via QR code: all you need is your phone—no need to carry a wallet. Another plus is the gated courtyards where cars can’t drive in. She lives in one just like that.
On October 24, her video was published by the Yekaterinburg portal E1.RU. The post garnered about 180 comments, and the support didn’t stop there.
“Then why did you come here if things are so bad here?” asked one of the readers.
“Go back. Gelya, you don’t belong here,” wrote another.
Some commenters shifted the discussion to her appearance and manner of speaking: “She’s pretty, but uneducated,” someone “retaliated” on behalf of Yekaterinburg.
