Macron Will Meet With Student Representatives
Emmanuel Macron

For the first time since the protests began in France.

French President Emmanuel Macron will meet with student representatives and law enforcement officials on Friday, October 23, on the eve of the resumption of protests.

This was reported by France24.

The French president’s meeting with representatives of the high school student movement is the first since the student protests began, which have been ongoing for over a month.

The president will also hold a new meeting of the Defense Council to prepare for the demonstrations scheduled for Saturday.

Meanwhile, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu will visit Limoges on Friday—a city that was particularly hard-hit on October 17, when protesters set fire to the city council building. An investigation into the circumstances of the fire is currently underway in the city.
As a reminder, mass protests have been ongoing in France for over a month, beginning with demonstrations by high school students protesting poor educational conditions. Subsequently, representatives of various professions joined the protests, speaking out against rising prices, low wages, and so on.

During the largest protests on October 17, numerous incidents of violence and looting were reported. A second wave of “national mobilization” is scheduled for Saturday, October 24. In some cities, particularly Marseille, protests have been banned and public transportation will be suspended for 24 hours due to fears of unrest.
