Historical footage.
On October 23, Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) released a video of a prisoner exchange between Poland and Belarus, as a result of which journalist Andrzej Pochobut was released. The exchange took place back in April.
The ABW showed the footage ahead of the broadcast: the security service will participate in the program “The New Cold War” on Polish television, with the episode set to air on October 25.
“We shared video clips from the scene of the operation, and an ABW officer discussed the behind-the-scenes details of the exchange and the specifics of such operations,” the agency explained.
As a reminder, on April 28, Belarus and Poland carried out a “five-for-five” exchange of detainees at the “Bobrovniki” border crossing (known as “Berestovitsa” on the Belarusian side). Among those handed over to Poland was political prisoner Andrzej Pochobut.

This is a rare sight.
This time, we decided to make an exception. And for good reason.
On April 28 of this year, during a prisoner exchange between Poland and Belarus, https://t.co/9IR5jL9gTr. Andrzej Poczobut regained his freedom. @ABW_GOV_PL played a key role in preparing and carrying out this operation.
And it is precisely this exchange that is the focus of our appearance on the @RaportSpecjalny program, titled “The New Cold War.”
We’ve shared excerpts from footage taken at the scene, and an #ABW officer discussed the behind-the-scenes details of the exchange and the specifics of such operations.

In February 2023, a court in Grodno sentenced Andrzej Poczobut to 8 years in prison under articles on inciting hostility (Part 3 of Article 130 of the Criminal Code) and for calls to take actions aimed at harming national security (Article 361-3 of the Criminal Code).
Andrzej was placed in solitary confinement several times at the Novopolotsk penal colony. While in prison, he lost a significant amount of weight and underwent surgery to remove skin ulcers. In October 2025, he was awarded the Sakharov Prize in absentia, and in November he received Poland’s highest honor—the Order of the White Eagle.
