Trump’s concessions to Moscow may be explained by compromising information that Putin allegedly has on him. Support for this theory is cited as the U.S. president’s resistance to releasing the Epstein files.
This was reported by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the podcast High Stakes, which she co-hosts with journalist Kara Swisher.
Swisher asked why Trump is easing pressure on Russia right now. Clinton cited several reasons, one of which was potential compromising material.
“I still believe that Putin has something on Trump,” she said. According to Clinton, this could be photos, videos—“anything.”
The former secretary of state sees Trump’s stubborn resistance to the release of the Epstein files as proof of this. In her view, the U.S. president’s logic is simple: keep Putin happy so that he doesn’t release what he has.
Clinton once again called Trump Putin’s puppet, just as she did during the debates ten years ago when she was a presidential candidate. Back then, she said, she warned about Trump’s ties to the Kremlin, and now the world is seeing confirmation of this firsthand.
She also suggested that Trump wants to divide the world into spheres of influence: the U.S. would get North and South America, Putin would get Russia and Europe, and Xi Jinping would get the rest of the world. Clinton warned that Putin will not stop at Ukraine.
In recent weeks, Trump has taken several steps toward Moscow. He froze the sanctions bill against Russia, explaining that he did not want to push Moscow away from negotiations, and prior to that approved a decision to supply Russian diesel fuel.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in an interview with Bloomberg that Washington’s moves appear to be an attempt to pressure Ukraine into surrender. According to him, Trump has a good relationship with Putin, but the U.S. president cannot force him to end the war.
Meanwhile, according to The Wall Street Journal, Putin proposed to Trump and Xi Jinping that they hold a trilateral summit to discuss ending the war without Ukraine’s participation.
