The U.S. Has Set A Date For The Final Vote On "severe" Sanctions Against Russia

Senator Richard Blumenthal, a co-author of the bill, delivered a powerful speech.

The U.S. House of Representatives voted on the rules of procedure for considering a bill imposing sanctions on Russia by a vote of 214 to 211. The final vote on the bill itself will take place on Wednesday, September 16.

This was reported by Charter97.org, citing X (Twitter) posts by “Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty” journalist Alex Raufoglu.

The procedural vote on the order of consideration of the bill initially failed to pass due to a lack of votes.

Among the Republicans who voted against it were Andy Harris, Tim Berchett, and Ralph Norman, while Democrats Jared Golden and one other lawmaker sided with the Republicans and voted “yes.”

However, in the end, the motion passed by a vote of 214 to 211.

Immediately afterward, Congressman Michael McCaul announced: “Tomorrow, I will lead the debate on the floor of the House of Representatives on the final passage of Lindsey Graham’s sanctions bill.”

After clearing the procedural hurdles, the bill’s co-author, Senator Richard Blumenthal, addressed the Ukrainian community.

“We will not rest until Ukraine is a secure and free nation,” Blumenthal stated.

According to him, the bill has the power to crush Putin’s war machine.

“The only way to stop bullies is to push them back and hit them in the face,” the senator added.

The bill on “hellish” sanctions was drafted last year by South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham, who passed away this summer—he was one of the most consistent supporters of Ukraine in Congress.

The law grants President Donald Trump the authority to impose 100 percent tariffs on the five countries that purchase the most Russian oil and gas, as well as on the five nations that help Moscow circumvent energy restrictions. Among the main buyers of Russian petroleum products today are China, India, and Turkey.
