The Ukrainian Armed Forces Killed Russian General Grunis
Anton Grunis

He commanded Russian Federation troops in the Bakhmut sector.

Russia reported the death of Major General Anton Grunis of the Russian Armed Forces, who commanded the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Luhansk Corps. The information was made public on September 15 by the Telegram channel “Suvorov Brotherhood.”

The channel noted that Grunis was a graduate of the Kazan Suvorov Military School.

In the “Mirotvorets” database, the general is listed as “eliminated,” with September 2026 listed as the date of his death.

According to the Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+, Grunis directly commanded Russian troops during combat operations against Ukraine, specifically in the Bakhmut and Konstantinovka sectors.

“Military” notes that the unit commanded by the general was the 4th Motorized Rifle Brigade (military unit 40318). It was formed in 2014 from the armed groups of the so-called “LPR”; in particular, it included the “Prizrak” combat unit. After these units were integrated into the Russian Armed Forces, the brigade became part of the 2nd Army Corps and, subsequently, the newly formed 3rd Guards Combined-Arms Army of the Southern Military District of the Russian Federation.
