The Russian opposition's goal today is to help Ukraine win by any means necessary.
In a war like this—a monstrous clash of civilizations, where the forces of freedom stand on one side and obscurantism and tyranny on the other—it is simply impossible to seek a middle ground. This is a war with only two possible outcomes—either Putin’s victory or his defeat. Any attempt to find a middle ground makes you an ally of evil.
The same applies to attempts by a significant portion of the Russian diaspora to figure out the “right” way to vote in the so-called Russian elections. The answer is very simple: not at all. There is no “right” way, because any voluntary participation in an electoral process conducted by an illegitimate fascist regime amounts to aiding it and legitimizing it.
It’s hard to believe that, five years into the war, people who continue to urge Russians to join the Kremlin’s propaganda machine don’t understand this. They know perfectly well that they have no influence whatsoever on what is happening in Russia. But the need to constantly prove their own relevance to Western donors forces them to continue this absurd charade. Hence all these attempts to dust off “Smart Voting,” “Noon Against Putin,” ballot tampering, and other long-discredited tactics.
People ask me: “What are you doing?” We are doing only what is within our power. But unlike those who pretend to be active as part of the Kremlin’s script, we are fighting the regime, not participating in its productions. We clearly understand that our place is among the ranks of the free world, which is at war with Putin’s Russia—a cancerous tumor threatening all of modern civilization.
This regime must be destroyed; therefore, the task of the Russian opposition today is not to seek the “right” way to participate in Putin’s charade, but to use every means at our disposal to help Ukraine prevail.
