A Russian oligarch presented an “extremely generous gift.”
The wife of President Donald Trump Jr.’s son, Bettina Anderson, posted on Instagram on Monday, September 14, confirming that Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev had organized part of their May wedding celebrations on a private island in the Bahamas as an “extremely generous wedding gift,” according to CBS News.
The publication reported that her post appeared after ProPublica published an article on Monday morning titled: “Donald Trump Jr.’s Wedding in the Bahamas Was Secretly Funded by a Russian Oligarch Close to Putin.”
Anderson noted that the Russian businessman, whom she referred to as “our dear friend,” hosted two nights of celebrations following their wedding.

The wife of the U.S. president’s son noted that the wedding itself was a private family affair. President Trump did not attend, citing his duties in Washington.
“The following weekend had actually been planned in advance as a fun weekend with friends. We never planned for it to be our wedding weekend. When our original wedding plans changed, we simply decided to get married earlier and arrived at the already-planned weekend as newlyweds. Our dear friend Umar very generously threw two incredible parties for us after our wedding. It was an incredibly generous wedding gift from a friend, and we were—and remain—incredibly grateful for it,” Anderson said.
The publication noted that it’s unclear how they met Kremlev. Anderson stated in her post: “Friendship doesn’t need political motives.”
“We’re lucky to have wonderful friends from all over the world, and we’ll never be shy or apologize for being grateful to them. There was no conspiracy,” Anderson emphasized.

The publication reported that, according to Forbes estimates, Donald Trump Jr.’s net worth is approximately $300 million.
CBS News reached out to the Trump Organization to ask why Trump Jr., who serves as executive vice president of the company, accepted the gift.
Notably, the Kremlin press office told ProPublica in a statement that he and Trump Jr. “maintain a friendly relationship” and first met “several years ago.”
The statement notes that the Kremlin “has never discussed political issues with any of his American friends or acquaintances.”
