In the temporarily occupied town of Yenakiyeve in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast, the “Galaktika” shopping center (formerly “Epientr”), with an area of 8,150 square meters, was attacked.
During the fire, local residents heard sounds resembling explosions. This was reported by the Telegram channel Exilenova+.
Second attack on the chain in a week
The attack on the shopping center in Yenakiyeve was already the second incident in a short period of time in which a facility belonging to this particular retail chain was targeted. On August 10, 2026, the “Galaktika” shopping center in Makiivka, with an area of 21,410 square meters, suffered a similar fate.
The shopping center in Makiivka was built before the occupation, when the territory was under Ukrainian control, and after the region was seized, Russian forces began using this Ukrainian property for their own purposes.

How the occupiers used shopping centers
Both facilities—in Makiivka and Yenakiieve—came under the de facto control of the occupying administration after the territories were seized. These facilities were frequented by members of the occupying forces because they housed stores selling military equipment.

The strikes on the “Galaktika” shopping center can be viewed as a symbolic response to Russia’s systematic destruction of Ukraine’s commercial and civilian infrastructure.
