In Russia, Another Key Industry Has Been Hit Hard Following The Drone Attacks

It's not just gasoline.

Russia has received yet another sign of problems in its military economy. Following the fuel crisis, statistics show a decline in ammonium nitrate production.

This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.

Ammonium nitrate is a dual-use product needed by both the agricultural sector and the military-industrial complex.

According to Rosstat, production volumes in Russia fell by 9% over the past year. In May alone, the decline was 14% year-over-year, marking the worst figure since the beginning of the year.

The Center for Countering Disinformation attributes the situation to Ukrainian long-range strikes on Russian industrial facilities. Officially, however, Russia attributes the decline to “unscheduled repairs.”

In particular, the Azot chemical plant in the Tula Region—one of Russia’s largest producers of chemical products used by the Russian defense industry—was recently targeted.

“The drop in production at Russia’s chemical industry is yet another indication of the effectiveness of Ukrainian long-range strikes. And although Russian propagandists are trying to pretend that Ukrainian UAVs are not causing significant damage, even official statistics show the exact opposite,” the CPI concluded.

In addition, The Economist noted that Ukrainian long-range strikes against Russia are affecting its economy and military production more severely than previously thought.

The publication estimated that in 2025 alone, Ukraine carried out 658 strikes on targets more than 100 km from the border, while production at Russian oil refineries fell by 15% year-over-year in the spring.
