Taiwan's Coast Guard Has Expelled Four Chinese Ships

Tensions are rising around Taiwan after Beijing announced a "special maritime operation" near the island.

According to Reuters, Taiwan's coast guard dislodged four Chinese vessels that entered a closed water area in the south of the island without permission. The incident was accompanied by harsh statements by the parties and mutual accusations of maritime violations.

Taipei claims that the actions of the Chinese ships were provocative and violated the established rules of maritime traffic.

In response to the appearance of the ships, the Taiwanese side activated standard water area control procedures and demanded the immediate withdrawal of foreign ships from the zone.

Chinese authorities said that the dispatch of the ships was part of a "special maritime operation."
