It costs a quarter of what its competitors do.
The Israeli company Esh-Tech has developed the DroneLight laser, which is capable of shooting down more than 30 drones per minute, while costing significantly less than its competitors' products.
As reported by defenseromania.ro, the new development will be presented at the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris (June 15–19).
DroneLight concentrates a large amount of energy into a 10-millisecond pulse, allowing it to penetrate the target. The system can be compared to a weapon firing five ultra-small-caliber bullets per second. Results were obtained using more than 20 drones, and, given a pulse frequency of 5 Hz, the DroneLight system requires one to two seconds to shoot down a UAV.
The DroneLight laser system has a range of 1 kilometer.
At the same time, DroneLight’s power consumption is quite low. According to Esh-Tech, compared to the more than 20 kW required for a conventional continuous-wave laser transmitter, DroneLight’s power consumption is approximately 4 kW.
At the same time, the weapon does not need to be constantly locked onto the target, as is the case with continuous-wave lasers. This allows for the neutralization of a greater number of targets in a very short period of time.
