This is the fourth week of protests in the country.

Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz has announced a 50 percent cut in his salary and those of his cabinet members amid protests in the country, Reuters reports. Paz explained, speaking in the capital Sucre, that cutting the salaries would show his "commitment to the country."

Bolivia is in its fourth week of protests over growing supply chain problems in the cities of La Paz and El Alto, where there have been shortages of food in markets, fuel at gas stations and medicine in hospitals. Protesters are calling on the current government to reverse austerity measures and address the rising cost of living.

According to Reuters, the new president is advocating spending cuts and fuel subsidies to stabilize the state budget.

Rodrigo Paz was elected president of Bolivia in October 2025, representing the Christian Democratic Party. During the election campaign, Paz declared a political course based on "capitalism for all" and also promised to remove administrative barriers to business development.
