Russia Is Trying To Hide The Real Losses Of The Oil Sector From The World

In the first few months of this year alone, refining volumes fell by 10%.

Ukraine has received new Russian documents with an assessment of the Russian Federation's losses from the war in Ukraine. This was reported by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, citing a report by the head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVRU).

He said Russia is trying to hide this assessment from both the world and internal Russian audiences. In particular, the first weighty factor is the reduction in the number of operating oil wells.

"Only one Russian oil company - and not the largest - has already been forced to close about 400 wells. Given the specifics of Russian oil production, this is a tangible loss, since restarting wells in Russia is much more difficult than in other oil-producing countries," the president said.

The second indicator, according to the head of state, is a reduction in oil refining by at least 10% in a few months of 2026.

"We see that our Ukrainian long-range sanctions are really working, and we will increase this direction of our active actions," Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian president also reported on Russia's problems in the banking sector. He noted that 11 financial institutions are preparing for complete liquidation due to problems that cannot be solved otherwise. And 8 more banking institutions have accumulated critical problems that cannot be covered without attracting outside resources.

"The indicators of the federal budget deficit this year are also optimistic for us, namely almost 80 billion dollars in the fifth month of the year, and this against the background of bankruptcy of a significant part of Russian regional budgets," Zelensky said.

He added that he instructed the head of the NRB to disseminate the information received about Russia's attempts to attract global companies to fix the crisis financial situation and schemes to improve the Russian economy. We will inform our partners. We also record attempts to attract investments and technologies from the countries of the democratic world to Russian oil and gas Arctic projects. We know how to counteract them," the Ukrainian head of state said.
