Yisrael Katz accused Lamin Yamal of incitement against Israel.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz accused Barcelona's top scorer Lamin Yamal of inciting hatred, after the 18-year-old footballer waved a Palestinian flag during the team's championship parade on May 11.
Katz wrote that Yamal decided to engage in "incitement against Israel and hate speech" while his soldiers were fighting the Palestinian group Hamas.
"Anyone who supports such statements should ask himself: is this humane in his eyes? Is it moral?"," Katz wrote on social media X, calling on Barcelona to condemn the footballer's actions.
Yamal waved a Palestinian flag on an open-top bus during a parade celebrating the team's Spanish championship win. According to local authorities, the parade drew about 750,000 people, AP notes.
Yamal is a practicing Muslim (the soccer player's father is from Morocco and his mother is from Equatorial Guinea). After the parade, the soccer player posted a photo with the flag of Palestine on Instagram.
