Belarus traditionally occupies a place in the last twenty of the rating - 165th, reports the Belarusian Association of Journalists. Our country is located between Yemen and Myanmar.

The country has risen by one position over the year, but not because of any improvements in the media sphere - some of the outsider neighbors "overtook" in deterioration.

The international human rights organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has published the annual Press Freedom Index-2026. In 25 years of observation, the average rating of countries has never been so low.

For the first time in the history of Reporters Without Borders' World Press Freedom Index, the situation in more than half of the world's countries is in the "difficult" or "very difficult" categories.

The introduction of laws restricting freedom of the press, including as part of the policy of strengthening the national security of certain countries, since 2001, has led to a gradual deterioration of the situation with freedom of information, including in democratic countries.

At the same time, the situation in more than half of the world's countries has deteriorated.
