Zelensky Commented On Orban's Defeat
Vladimir Zelensky

Hungary's prime minister relied on the rhetoric of hate.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has said that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his Fidesz party lost the election because of building a campaign on the theme of hatred towards Ukraine. He said this in an interview broadcast by the "United News" telethon, "European Pravda" reported.

Zelensky said that it is impossible to win elections constantly, relying on the rhetoric of hatred.

"I have said this many times, many leaders disagreed with me. You can't win on hate all the time. You can win tactically, but strategically you can definitely lose. The elections in Hungary are Orban's strategic failure," he said.

Zelensky noted that he tried to build a dialog with Orban's government, even despite the criticism against him and the campaign with "bigboards of hatred."

"I said that I belong to the choice of the people of Ukraine. The hatred towards me is a projection of hatred towards Ukrainians. He built his campaign on hatred of Ukrainians, and Hungarians have shown: we do not agree with this," the Ukrainian president added.

After the party of Hungary's incumbent prime minister's party was defeated in the April 12 election, the EU expressed hope for the unblocking of 90 billion euros in financial aid to Ukraine, as well as a 20-pack of sanctions against Russia.

It was previously reported that Viktor Orban blocked these initiatives, accusing Ukraine of stopping the transit of Russian oil through the Druzhba pipeline.

Hungarian incumbent Prime Minister Peter Magyar, for his part, said he would not block the EU loan for Ukraine, but noted that Hungary would not participate in its financing.
