U.S. Attacked And Seized An Iranian Cargo Ship

On board could have been chemicals for Tehran's missile program.

US President Donald Trump says the US military attacked and seized an Iranian-flagged vessel after it attempted to break the US blockade in the Gulf of Oman.

The US president told Truth Social.

"Today, the Iranian cargo ship TOUSKA, nearly 900 feet long and comparable in weight to an aircraft carrier, attempted to break our naval blockade and it ended in failure for them," Trump wrote.

He said the US guided-missile destroyer USS SPRUANCE intercepted the vessel in the Gulf of Oman and warned the crew to stop. However, the crew did not comply, after which the ship was taken under control.

"The Iranian crew refused to comply, so our ship stopped them on the spot, damaging the engine room. The ship is currently under the control of the U.S. Marine Corps," the report said.

As The Washington Post writes, the container ship with a capacity of about 4,800. TOUSKA was returning from the Chinese port of Gaolan in Zhuhai to the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas.

As WP notes, the port of Gaolan specializes, in particular, in the shipment of chemicals, including sodium perchlorate - a component used in the production of solid rocket fuel. At the same time, the exact composition of the cargo on board TOUSKA has not been officially confirmed.

The publication also notes that the ship is linked to a company that Washington has previously accused of buying materials for Iran's ballistic missile development program.
