The U.S. opposed it.
Russia expressed readiness to accept enriched uranium from Iranian nuclear facilities, but the United States rejected the initiative. Russian dictator's spokesman Dmitri Peskov said this in an interview with India Today.
"This could have been a very good solution indeed. But unfortunately, the American side rejected the proposal. And now it is not on the negotiating table. Although President Putin is ready to return to this initiative," Mr. Peskov said.
The spokesman said Iran was agreeable to such an option, but the US has its own demands and interests. "So the question is to combine the demands and interests of all parties involved in order to reach an agreement, to make a deal, as Washington says," Mr. Peskov concluded.
Iran's nuclear program remains one of the main disagreements between Tehran and Washington. The US suspects Iran of intentions to develop nuclear weapons and demands a complete halt to uranium enrichment.
