The Lukashenko regime recognized the university as an "extremist organization."
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kiastutis Budrys sharply criticized the decision of the Belarusian authorities to recognize the European Humanities University as an "extremist organization" and expressed support for the university.
In his words, such a step by Minsk is outrageous. Budrys noted that the university in question is an accredited Belarusian university, which operates in exile in Vilnius, and emphasized that this decision jeopardizes students, teachers and their families, as well as restricts access to independent and objective education. He also called what happened another unfriendly step by Alexander Lukashenko's regime towards Lithuania and the European Union and assured that Vilnius is ready to support the YSU community.
Minsk's move to brand the European Humanities University - an accredited Belarusian university in exile in Vilnius - an "extremist organization" is outrageous.
It puts students, faculty, and families at serious risk and obstructs access to independent, unbiased education.

Earlier the Supreme Court of Belarus recognized the European Humanities University together with its structural units as an "extremist organization" and banned its activities in the country.
