U.S. troops have completely halted economic trade with Iran by sea.
The US announced that it had completely blocked Iran's maritime trade, amid expectations of renewed talks with Tehran on ending the armed conflict.
Admiral Brad Cooper, head of U.S. Central Command, said U.S. forces had completely halted economic trade with Iran by sea, which he said accounts for 90 percent of Iran's economy.
"In less than 36 hours since the blockade was imposed, U.S. forces have completely halted economic trade with Iran by sea," Cooper wrote in an X message.
The Wall Street Journal earlier reported that the U.S. military said it had intercepted eight oil tankers linked to Iran since the blockade began Monday.
President Donald Trump said talks between U.S. and Iranian officials could resume in Pakistan in the next two days.
"I think you have two incredible days ahead of you," Trump told ABC News reporter Jonathan Karl, adding that he believes there will be no need to extend the two-week cease-fire that ends April 21. "It could turn out differently, but I think a deal is more preferable because it will allow them to build back up," Trump said, according to Karl's posting on Platform X. - They do have a different regime in place. Either way, we've eliminated the radicals."
