Russia took advantage of the ceasefire in the occupied town of Oleshky in the Kherson region to move heavy equipment and ammunition, reinforce its positions, and rotate its troops. This was reported by journalists from Sky News, who gained access to aerial monitoring data of the evacuation.
Sky News’ chief producer in Ukraine Azad Safarov reported that before, during, and after the evacuation, the Russians were bringing heavy equipment, weapons, ammunition, food, and personnel into Oleshky and neighboring villages. According to him, soldiers went door-to-door looking for basements to use as new positions and were retaking lost ground. In addition, they “covered their tracks” by removing the bodies of civilians killed in shelling and mine explosions from the morgue.
The TV channel gained exclusive access to a command post in southern Ukraine, where real-time footage from long-range drones can be viewed. The footage shows that the Russian military began moving equipment and supplies even before the evacuation began. Lieutenant Colonel Dmytro Pulinets, commenting on what was happening on screen, said that previously the Russians could not even have dreamed of traveling on this road at any time of day or in any weather, but now they have that opportunity.

The 34th Separate Marine Brigade “Borysfen” noted that the ceasefire has a “bittersweet taste”: According to military officials, Russia used the humanitarian operation as a cover for combat operations. The brigade documented a number of violations of the agreements that occurred before, during, and after the evacuation.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also stated that the Russian army used the humanitarian pause to reinforce its positions. During this time, the Ukrainian military noted the rotation of units, the fortification of positions, the deployment of additional anti-drone measures on roads, and the buildup of logistics.
