Stubb revealed the details.
Finnish President Alexander Stubb, during a phone call with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, conveyed to him two proposals from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Kyiv wants to hold a face-to-face meeting between the leaders, as well as agree on measures to de-escalate the war and a possible ceasefire in certain areas. Stubb discussed this in an interview with the Finnish media outlet Yle.
According to the Finnish president, the Ukrainian leader’s first proposal concerned a bilateral meeting with Putin. During the meeting, the parties could discuss territorial issues and security.
“First, he would like to hold a bilateral conversation with President Putin and discuss, in particular, territorial issues and security,” Stubb said.
Zelenskyy’s second message concerned possible steps to de-escalate hostilities. Specifically, it involved agreements on ceasefires in certain areas critical to the civilian population and the functioning of the state.
Among the possible areas for such a truce, Stubb cited energy and energy infrastructure, food security, the exchange of prisoners of war, and the protection of critical infrastructure. The telephone conversation also addressed Russia’s next steps in the negotiations in Abu Dhabi.
