Ukraine Attacked A Major Petrochemical Hub In Bashkortostan

The only facility in Russia that manufactures a unique component for armor materials is on fire.

Smoke is rising above the Bashkir Soda Company (BSK). This is Russia’s only facility producing a unique component for armor materials, which was already attacked last summer.

Monitoring channels reported a drone threat around 5 a.m., and the attack was officially confirmed an hour later. Ufa Airport imposed restrictions on aircraft arrivals and departures. Meanwhile, local residents reported explosions and at least two “strikes,” according to ASTRA.

Their OSINT analyst determined that smoke was visible specifically in the BSK area.

However, the company is also listed in the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade’s confidential registry of defense enterprises, as it produces hydrochloric acid and dichloroethane, which are used in the manufacture of explosives. BSK is also the only Russian manufacturer of terephthaloyl chloride. This is a critically important chemical compound used to produce synthetic ballistic fibers, high-strength polymers, and aramid materials (Kevlar analogs). It is used to manufacture modern body armor, helmets, and armor components for military vehicles and aircraft.

The nationalization of the company in 2020–2021 and its subsequent transfer to the control of the “Roskhim” holding company (linked to entities close to the Kremlin) were justified precisely by the need to restore state control over assets critical to national defense. BSK had previously come under attack on August 27.

As a reminder, on the night of October 24, a series of explosions rocked the Russian city of Togliatti in the Samara Region and a major fire broke out. It was reported that drones attacked the “Tolyattikauchuk” plant, whose products are used, in particular, in the tire industry and in the production of rocket fuel.
