FT: The U.S. Has Radically Changed Its Position In The Ukraine Peace Talks

There will be no territorial concessions to the Kremlin.

The U.S. has made it clear that it no longer intends to demand territorial concessions from Ukraine in exchange for security guarantees.

This was reported by Financial Times, citing two sources familiar with the preparations for the trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi.

The talks will focus primarily on security guarantees for Russia and Ukraine after the war ends. Washington hopes to make progress toward reaching an agreement, although there are no signs yet that the Kremlin is softening its stance.

Previously, the Donald Trump administration had made territorial concessions to Putin a condition for providing security guarantees to Ukraine. In January, the FT reported that Kyiv had received a signal that the U.S. was willing to provide guarantees only after agreeing to a peace deal that would transfer the Donbas to Moscow. In March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stated that Washington was linking the guarantees to the territorial issue. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio denied that Washington had demanded that Ukraine cede territory.
