This happens especially often with young children.

Scientists from the Department of Perceptual Studies at the University of Virginia have discovered a striking detail in more than a thousand claims of reincarnation, according to nv.ua.

There is no reliable evidence for the existence of reincarnation. However, many people claim to remember events from a past life. This happens particularly often with young children.

Since the 1960s, researchers in the United States have been compiling a unique archive of cases in which young children have recounted details of the lives of people who died long ago. In a recent analysis published in the journal *Psychology of Consciousness: Theory, Research, and Practice*, scientists analyzed 1,678 such stories. It is important to note that not all cases were included in the study, but only those in which the identity of the deceased could be confirmed.

The results revealed a clear pattern: in 1,319 cases, the average time interval between a person’s death and the birth of the child who allegedly remembered that person’s life was 16 months. In cases of natural death, this interval was 21 months. However, if the death was premature—due to an accident, violence, or illness—the interval was reduced to 12 months.

The study’s author, cognitive neuroscientist Saide Sadeghi, notes that such temporal patterns are extremely difficult to attribute to children’s fantasies, exaggerations, or parents’ fabrications. Even after accounting for various social, religious, cultural, or psychological factors, the observed effect remained consistent. Moreover, it was even stronger in families whose beliefs do not support the concept of reincarnation at all.

The researchers caution against jumping to conclusions about the existence of reincarnation and emphasize the neutrality of their position regarding the mechanisms behind this phenomenon. Furthermore, they point out that such phenomena can be explained by the cultural and religious aspects of many peoples around the world (particularly Hinduism, Buddhism, and the indigenous peoples of North America), even if modern people do not strictly adhere to the traditions of their ancestors. In many parts of the world, it is believed that those who die prematurely leave “unfinished business,” which may compel them to return to this world.

Currently, researchers plan to continue studying this mystery, as the raw factual data confirms the existence of a real phenomenon that science is not yet able to explain.
