Zelenskyy's Approval Rating Has Risen Sharply
Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Ukrainians backed their president in the conflict with Trump.

Against the backdrop of the diesel agreement between the U.S. and Russia, as well as escalating tensions between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, confidence in the Ukrainian president has grown within the country. This is evidenced by data from a poll conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).

It is noted that prior to the announcement of the agreement and the subsequent pressure on Ukraine, on October 8–9, 43% of respondents said they trusted Zelenskyy, while 52% said they did not. Between October 10 and 16, 57% of respondents expressed trust in him, while 39% did not.

Experts refer to this as the “rally-around-the-flag” effect. They note that many people in Ukraine criticize Zelenskyy over various issues. But while Ukrainians may be outraged by instances of corruption within the president’s team or by poor personnel decisions, during international conflicts the voices of critics are “significantly quieter.”

At the same time, they emphasize that it is unclear how significant and long-lasting the “rallying around the flag” effect will be. During the dispute with Trump in 2025, this effect was already less widespread than it had been in 2022. With this in mind, experts conclude that the current effect may be even more short-lived.
