Earlier, the renowned soccer player announced that he was leaving the national team's training camp.
Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro called Cristiano Ronaldo and the national team's head coach Jorge Jesus after the forward left the national team, according to Portuguese media reports.
According to sources, Montenegro called the president of the Portuguese Football Federation Pedro Proença and asked to be put in touch with Jesus, and also spoke personally with Ronaldo.
Montenegro has a good relationship with Jesus and felt it was necessary to discuss the situation, Record reports. The conversation took place on the same day that Ronaldo announced his departure from the national team’s training camp.
The 41-year-old Ronaldo left the team’s training camp in Copenhagen after Jesus’s press conference. The forward, dissatisfied with not having played in the match against Norway, chartered a private jet and flew to Madrid. He promised to explain the reasons for his decision later.
Ronaldo holds the record for the most appearances for the Portuguese national team (234) and the most goals scored (146), which is also a world record.
The Portuguese national team will play Denmark in Copenhagen on October 1.
