Some details have emerged regarding the departure of forward Cristiano Ronaldo from the Portugal national soccer team’s training camp.

Ronaldo left the national team’s training camp after head coach Jorge Jesus announced that he would not include the forward in the starting lineup for the match against Denmark, according to Marca reports. After Jesus’s press conference, the striker went to his hotel, packed his bags, and chartered a private jet from Madrid.

Jesus and the president of the Portuguese Football Federation Pedro Proença went to the airport to meet Ronaldo and tried at the last minute to convince the captain to stay with the national team. However, Cristiano refused, boarded the plane, and flew to Madrid.
In Portugal, there is already speculation that this incident could mark the end of Ronaldo’s international career. The 41-year-old soccer player has not yet officially announced his retirement from the national team.
As a reminder, the forward did not take the field in the match against Norway (2–1), remaining on the bench. After the final whistle, Ronaldo went to the locker room without joining his teammates as they thanked the Portuguese fans. The next day, the soccer player limited himself to a workout in the hotel gym and did not train on the field. He subsequently left the team’s training camp for good.

Ronaldo spent 23 years with the national team, winning Euro 2016 and two Nations Leagues. He scored 146 goals in 234 matches for the Portuguese national team. This is the world record for goals scored in men’s international soccer.

It was reported that Cristiano has decided to no longer play for the Portuguese national team.
