Trump Has Changed His Mind About Meeting With Xi Jinping

The U.S. president said the meeting "no longer makes sense."

US President Donald Trump has said he no longer sees any point in meeting with Chinese President Si Jinping. He released his statement on the social network Thruth Social.

"I was supposed to meet with President Xi in two weeks at the APEC summit in South Korea, but now there seems to be no point," Trump said.

The U.S. leader attributed this to the fact that China is "sending letters" to countries around the world announcing its intention to tighten export controls on rare earth metals. Trump added that such messages from Beijing "were particularly inappropriate" amid a truce between Israel and the Palestinian radical movement Hamas.
