Putin Was Briefed On The Results Of The Meeting Between CIA Director Ratcliffe And Russian Intelligence Agencies

There was no contact with the Russian dictator himself.

Russia's dictator Vladimir Putin was promptly informed of outcome of the meeting between CIA Director John Ratcliffe and representatives of the Russian intelligence services. There were no direct contacts with the head of state himself, nor are any planned, stated his press secretary Dmitry Peskov.

“All I can tell you is that contacts took place through the intelligence services. I can tell you that there were no meetings with the Russian president,” Peskov clarified at a briefing. The press secretary added that he has no information about meetings “through other agencies.”

Dmitry Peskov described the contacts between Russian and American intelligence agencies as a positive development. According to the presidential spokesperson, these contacts continue even during the most difficult periods in bilateral relations. However, it is too early to say whether such meetings will help pull relations between Russia and the U.S. out of their “deepest crisis,” Peskov concluded.

On August 25, CIA Director John Ratcliffe arrived in Moscow on a working visit. U.S. media, citing sources, reported that the visit may have focused on information regarding Russia’s preparations for provocations against its European NATO allies.
