In Belarus, Trucks From Kaliningrad Are Being Detained En Masse

Trucks are being "towed to the impound lot" for an indefinite period.

Carriers from Kaliningrad have encountered widespread delays for trucks on Belarusian territory, according to the Russian regional portal “Klops”.

According to the publication, when crossing the Lithuanian-Belarusian border, Russian trucks are “taken off the line” and held for inspection, a process that can take several months. As the article notes, this occurs on the Belarusian side of the border.

After submitting their documents, drivers are told at the border that their trucks are being “held” for an indefinite period. A representative of one of the trucking companies Ivan Zaitsev explained that this involves “verifying the authenticity of the documents” — even though the paperwork for one of the detained trucks was issued by the Kaliningrad State Traffic Police back in February 2026.

The problem, as noted, affects more than one border crossing on the Lithuanian-Belarusian border—in total, this could involve approximately 300 vehicles from Kaliningrad. “At just one of the border crossings, a dozen or so such trucks have already accumulated,” the article states.

According to Zaitsev, inspection times can be significantly delayed: his own tractor-trailer has been idle for about a week, while other carriers have reported delays of three to four months or longer.

The problem is particularly acute for those transporting perishable goods. Zaitsev’s company delivers hanging meat, for which transit times are strictly limited. “We’re given only four days to make the delivery from here,” he said.

According to him, in such situations, he has to find another tractor-trailer to pick up the trailer and avoid disrupting the delivery. Zaitsev also complained about the conditions long-haul truckers face: “The tractor-trailers are parked in a layover area where there’s neither a café nor a store.”

It is noted that companies engaged in freight transportation on this route are incurring significant losses due to the delays.
