"Ukraine Has Launched The First Phase Of Its 'counteroffensive' Against Crimea"

The Ukrainian Armed Forces are cutting off the peninsula from Russian supplies.

Strikes by the Ukrainian Defense Forces on transportation and fuel-energy infrastructure in occupied Crimea and along routes leading to it can be viewed as the first phase of the de-occupation of the Ukrainian peninsula. This opinion was expressed in an interview with “Channel 24” by a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Major Alexey Getman.

According to the expert, the current approach to the de-occupation of Crimea had been discussed earlier and involves creating conditions under which the Russian forces on the peninsula will gradually lose the ability to conduct combat operations due to the disruption of their logistics.

“Although a ground operation will still have to be carried out,” Getman said.

At the same time, he emphasized that a key element of such a scenario is an effective blockade of the occupied peninsula. According to him, if logistics routes are destroyed, Russian troops will face limited options.

“The Russians have three options left. Either flee across the Kerch Bridge, which still stands, or surrender, or simply perish, because they have no other way out when they have nothing left to fight with,” he stated.

Commenting on the remarks by SBS Commander Robert Brovdy regarding the de-occupation of Crimea without a conventional assault, Getman endorsed this assessment and noted that this is precisely what a modern counteroffensive looks like.

“Yes, this is indeed the de-occupation of Crimea. This is indeed a counteroffensive. It just doesn’t look the way we’d like it to,” said the military expert.

In his view, the current campaign is an example of asymmetric operations, and its initial phase is already underway.

“This is the counteroffensive, and this is exactly what it looks like—at least its first phase looks exactly like this,” Getman concluded.
