Kyiv is closely monitoring all potential threats from the Lukashenko regime.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga stated that Kyiv will respond with “reciprocal measures” to any potential actions by Belarus. According to him, Ukraine does not yet expect Belarus to become directly involved in the war, but is closely monitoring all potential threats.
Andriy Sibiga noted that Kyiv assumes the Belarusian authorities will not get drawn into the war, as they understand that any hostile actions will receive an appropriate response.
He also reported that the day before, Belarus had sent a note via the Ukrainian Embassy in Minsk proposing the introduction of a special regime for visiting the border zone—allowing Ukrainians to pick mushrooms and berries on Belarusian territory. However, according to Sibiga, the document contains references to agreements that are no longer in effect, since Ukraine has withdrawn from both the relevant CIS documents and bilateral agreements with Belarus. The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has already officially stated that it is not interested in this proposal.
The minister added that Ukrainian intelligence and other agencies are constantly monitoring the situation in Belarus. According to him, they are analyzing changes in Belarusian legislation, the reorganization of military units, the number of troops near the Ukrainian border, joint activities between Belarus and Russia, as well as the possibility of using Belarusian infrastructure to launch attacks on Ukraine.
Sibiga emphasized that the warnings issued by the President of Ukraine are not empty statements, and the Belarusian authorities must be aware of this.
