The Video "hit A Nerve"
Alexander Lunin

"Special Military Operation veterans" will become a serious problem for Putin no matter how events unfold.

The most widely shared video today is an appeal by a certain SVO soldier Alexander Lunin to Vladimir Putin on Instagram. The veteran demands to be received at the Kremlin; otherwise, he threatens a military mutiny and promises that the army will turn against the Kremlin.

June 25, 2026. A representative of the people’s servants came to see me today. Yesterday, I met with people—representatives of high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Defense and law enforcement agencies—who conveyed a message to Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin: if he does not grant me a live broadcast where I can tell the whole truth about what is currently happening in our country,

Right now, tens, hundreds, and thousands of our soldiers are languishing in dungeons. Punished by their commanders. They sit there, rotting away, subjected to torture and abuse by the so-called Gestapo. For refusing to carry out senseless, suicidal orders. For refusing to hand over their money. And ultimately, they are written off as missing in action.

Vladimir Vladimirovich, please take note of this and invite me to meet with you. The consequences will be very serious.

If I do not arrive at the Kremlin in the near future and appear on live television alongside you, the army will turn its weapons against the Kremlin.

I am merely delivering a message. That’s all from me.”

The grounds for this complaint are very real—extrajudicial executions and reprisals against military personnel, as well as extortion at the front. The video looks more like a lone voice speaking out, although the author claims he is “merely delivering a message.” Nevertheless, it’s worth noting the large number of views and reactions (over 100,000 likes in five hours, about 40,000 shares). This reaction indicates that the video “hit a nerve.”

This is an example of how “special military operation veterans” will become a serious problem for Putin regardless of how events unfold. Perhaps Putin’s reluctance to end the war is partly explained by his fear that a large number of such people will begin to hold the country’s political leadership accountable for the lost war and the senseless deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.
