The Oil Slick From Tuapse Is Moving Towards Putin's Palace

Oil is creeping up on a luxurious beachfront residence near Gelendzhik.

The oil slick formed after a series of Ukrainian strikes on the Tuapse refinery is moving along the Black Sea coast toward Gelendzhik. It is now about 30 kilometers from Putin's luxurious residence on Cape Idokopas, the so-called "Putin's palace."

This is reported by Bild.

Where the slick came from

The Tuapse refinery was hit by several Ukrainian drone strikes in April. The first attacks on April 16 and 20 caused widespread fires that were visible even from space. Oil tanks were damaged and one person was killed.

Toxic substances fell with the rain, covering cars and city streets with an oily film. Residents of houses near the refinery were evacuated, people wear masks because of the poisoned air.

Threat to Putin's residence

Satellite images show a large oil slick moving along the coast towards Gelendzhik and Cape Idokopas. That is where Putin's luxurious residence is located. The slick is now about 30 kilometers away.

This is not the first time Putin's residence on the Black Sea has been threatened with trouble: two years ago drones were sent there, last year it was threatened by forest fires.

Reaction of the sides

Putin accused Ukraine of strikes on civilian infrastructure and warned of "serious environmental consequences." Kiev confirmed the attacks as part of a campaign against Russia's energy sector.

Experts warn that the pollution could harm local ecosystems and reduce the region's tourist appeal.
