U.S. Plane Conducted Reconnaissance Of Russia From An Unexpected Location For The Kremlin

The range of ARTEMIS II reconnaissance assets is up to 600 kilometers.

A U.S. Bombardier ARTEMIS II electronic surveillance aircraft made a reconnaissance flight off the Black Sea coast, during which it monitored Russian territory, dialog.ua writes.

What was remarkable, however, was not the fact of this mission, as such flights are performed on a regular basis, but the fact that the reconnaissance was conducted from the airspace of Georgia, a country where the government pursues a policy characterized by loyalty to Russia.

According to aviation watchers, the Bombardier ARTEMIS II took off from the Mihail Cogalniceanu airfield in Romania and first conducted reconnaissance over Black Sea waters on its normal trajectory before barreling over Georgian territory.

The range of ARTEMIS II reconnaissance means is up to 600 km, i.e. it could observe radars and communication facilities on the territory of the Russian Federation up to Astrakhan and Elista, the entire Stavropol Territory, as well as almost the entire Caspian Sea.

In addition, the aircraft could observe the northern part of Iran, up to the cities of Mekhabad and Resht.

"A high-tech U.S. Army ARTEMIS II aircraft is conducting an unusual reconnaissance and surveillance mission over Georgia," the observers wrote.

They note that they have never before seen such aircraft go so far east of their usual missions over the Black Sea.
