"These are the first 5th generation fighters on NATO's eastern flank, capable of detecting threats before they are detected. For Poland, this is not just new equipment, but joining the elite league of the world's modern air forces," the minister wrote on Platform X before the fighter jets arrived.
In 2020, Poland ordered 32 F-35 multi-role aircraft for its air force, made by US company Lockheed Martin. These are the first deliveries from that batch.
The planes will be sent to the 32nd Tactical Air Base in Laska, where some Polish F-16s are now stationed, and in the next phase to the 21st Tactical Air Base in Swidwin, where recently decommissioned Soviet Su-22s have been deployed.
